As part of this role Darby will be reaching out to all families in Tetbury who have children eligible for Free School Meals and who can therefore access the Holiday and Food Programme (HAF). The TAYCT Team

WOW, what a summer!

Wow, what a busy and exciting summer we had! We ran drop-in sessions for young people on the Rec throughout the summer, family play sessions, cookery workshops, circus skills workshops, a bus trip to support young people to access Cirencester, an end of summer BBQ and also attended community days and events in the town. It was wonderful to see how well the activities were received, the numbers that attended and the variety of things on offer in Tetbury this summer for children and families. We have had some fantastic feedback and are already excitedly planning our October and Christmas holiday events so watch this space!

We are extremely proud to announce that we have won the Gloucestershire HAF Award for the Best Family Event 2023 for the two Play Sessions that we ran in August.

Back to our regular youth club sessions, we are excited for the year ahead and can announce 2 new weekly sessions for young people in Tetbury. We will be offering a Year 7 session on a Thursday in the Dolphins Hall which will focus on supporting their transition into Secondary School and offering a safe space for them to gather and socialise with access to trusted adults. We are also opening our doors for 1 hour, straight after school on a Tuesday, where we will be running a “tea & toast” drop-in Youth Cafe for any young people wanting to come and chat about their day, anything that is on their mind or just to have a safe space to come and be.

We would like to welcome Mikala Gatley to our team who is well known in the community and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience of working with young people.

All sessions are free to attend, there is no need to book, we just ask young people or parents to complete a contact form on their first visit to us. Young people are free to come and go during sessions.

Look out for our Youth Holiday Programme this Summer

Make sure that you all keep a close eye on our social media pages in the run up to the Summer Holidays as we are busy working to provide some really valuable and fun activities and opportunities for children and young people over the summer weeks.

Look out for opportunities with Bloodhound STEM workshops, Circus Skills, Cookery Classes, Playdays on the Rec, Youth Drop-in sessions, Highgrove Traditional Craft Workshops and much more.

Enjoying tasty snacks in every session

We are also planning a Summer BBQ event for young people to celebrate the end of the year. Details to be confirmed.

For families eligible for the Holidays and Food Programme we will be offering Access Passes to families for both Westonbirt Arboretum and The Cotswold Beach with lunch bags available to all children, there will also be funded places at Atlas Camp over the summer weeks. All of these can be accessed by registering with the Children’s Activity Booking System (CABS). If anyone believes they are eligible and isn’t yet on this system please do get in touch.

Delighted to see so many young people enjoying our sessions

Well it hasn’t quite been the sunny, dry start to the summer term we were expecting with Youth Sessions running outside on the Rec! This hasn’t stopped any of the fun at Tetbury Youth Club however and we have kept dry and warm inside making pancakes, pasta dinners, pizzas and some lovely crafts. It also hasn’t put off any of our young people with our numbers being higher than ever.

Our sessions are drop-in meaning that young people are free to come and go during the 2hr session, when we have enough volunteers/youth workers in on a Monday night you will often see a couple of us youth workers wandering around the Rec in our bright blue t-shirts, we try to come out when we can and offer a trusted adult for the young people who choose to spend their evening enjoying the wonderful space on the Rec and for them to know we are there if they need us. This is only possible when we have enough adults running the indoor youth club and as always we rely heavily on our wonderful volunteers for this to be possible. Please do make contact if you have an odd evening here and there that you think you might be able to spend with us, we can promise a fun evening full of laughs and there is always food!

We are excited to get outside in the coming weeks and enjoy the sports equipment, games and camping chairs that are sitting so patiently waiting for the sun to come out and for us to use.

A huge thank you goes to Steve and Jas at Cirencester Judo Club for running a youth female self-defense session for us. This was such a fun evening and the girls who attended got so much out of it. We were so impressed by the girls and the Judo leaders commented on what a brilliant group they were. The girls learnt to use their voices assertively and gained confidence in doing so, they learned techniques that can be used to keep them safe and also what amazing things their bodies can do. They should feel really proud and we hope to be able to run another session soon.

We have a packed activity schedule for the May half term week with a Textiles Workshop opportunity at Highgrove Traditional Crafts and a drop-in youth session on the Rec for young people.

The Bloodhound Project will be visiting Tetbury also, they run fun STEM activities for children and are also community connectors meaning they can help all eligible families to access HAF activities over the school holidays, make sure you come and say hi to them.  We have the fantastic  Play Gloucestershire visiting us to provide play opportunities for all the family at the Playpark and on another day  World Jungle will be bringing some fun and engaging activities for all ages too. How incredibly lucky we are in Tetbury to have such exciting and varied opportunities available to our children and families over the school holidays.

Details of all events can be found on our social media pages so please follow us to make sure you know what is on and when.

Tetbury Youth Club was extra busy over the Easter holidays

We held two drop-in sessions, one on the sunny Rec with sports equipment, camping chairs, food and activities and another on a rather more soggy afternoon where we provided a dry space for young people to come and meet, eat some food and play. Each session saw about 30 young people drop in.

We held a workshop at Highgrove Traditional Crafts for 6 young people who learnt about fashion production skills and then made their very own bucket hat. We also supported a session at Westonbirt Arboretum where 10 lucky young people attended for the day to explore the birds of the Arboretum, make Willow bird feeders, play some games, and take part in a discussion group about how the Arboretum could be improved for young people. All these sessions were Free to the young people who attended and were a huge success.

We further arranged for free access passes for families with children eligible for Free School Meals to attend both Westonbirt Arboretum and Cotswold Country Park and Beach during the 2 weeks of Easter. We were able to fund lunches for any children attending these days.

Huge thanks go to Highgrove Traditional Crafts, Westonbirt Arboretum, Cotswold Beach and The Pantry Cafe @ Westonbirt for their support. Without the support of wonderful local organisations like this we wouldn’t be able to provide local families with as many opportunities as we do.

Back to our main term time sessions and we are hoping for some dry weather so we can get out onto the Rec and enjoy the space that we need.

Our Sessions run:

Mondays 5.45-7.45pm - Year 7 & 8

Thursdays  6-8pm - Year 9  to Year 13

All sessions are free to attend, there is no sign up and we just ask young people or parents to complete a contact form on their first visit to us. Young people are free to come and go during the 2hr session.
