It takes a village...

We at Tetbury Youth Club are always grateful for the support of our many wonderful community members and organisations. This half term, special thanks go to Tetbury Rugby Club and Stephen Knight for giving his time and endless enthusiasm to support some sessions on  Monday evenings. So far our Year 7 & 8 group have been treated to both Dodgeball and Indoor Hockey which they have thoroughly enjoyed and it has been a wonderful way to expend some energy and have a lot of fun while we are waiting for the weather to improve.

By the time this article has been published we will have enjoyed a visit from Rev. Steve Bullock who has kindly offered to volunteer some of his time to us when he is able; we look forward to taking advantage of his many years & experience in youth work. We are also very excited to welcome back Westonbirt Arboretum to our sessions.  They will be visiting on 20th March to bring some activities for our young people to take part in and are keen to find out how they can make the Arboretum a more enjoyable space for young people.

We have also had a couple of visits from PCSO Ed who drops in when he is passing on patrol to chat with the young people and who is keen to build positive relationships in the community and to be a familiar face for our young people.

Food and cooking has always been a very important part of what we do and something the young people who attend really engage with. This half term we have been very impressed with the confidence of our groups making pancakes, jollof rice, pizzas and even a chocolate fondue night as part of our Valentine’s evening celebrations.

We are excited to get back outside after Easter and are looking forward to getting the camping chairs, sports equipment and games back out of the shed and onto the Rec to be enjoyed by all as the temperatures improve and things dry up a bit.

The half term holiday sessions were a big success, thanks go to Tetbury Lions who funded a Play Gloucestershire Play Day on The Rec where they engaged with over 80 children, young people and adults, the feedback from the families who attended was overwhelmingly positive.

A lucky group of 10 young people spent a day in the workshops of Highgrove Traditional Crafts learning woodwork skills and producing a Bird Box. Kelly, our youth worker who attended the session, reported that the group worked incredibly hard and that she was really impressed with them as it was physically quite demanding.

We are now looking ahead to both Easter and May Half Term and have some exciting opportunities available for all, as well as some additional experiences available for families eligible for Free School Meals. Please follow us on social media for further details.
